WWF Pakistan’s Travelling Nature Carnival 2011





This year, the Traveling Nature carnival will be held in Karachi on 30th January 2011 has been sponsored by the Indus Motor Company. The overall objective of this event will be to engage students and teachers in a structured annual awareness raising programme. Furthermore it will build the capacity and train the selected students to develop in-school solution oriented demonstration models on environmental conservation themes.

WWF Pakistan’s Wetlands Travelling Nature Carnival 2010:


Once again, almost thirty thousand visitors including school children, parents, teachers, corporate partners and media participated in WWF Pakistan’s travelling Nature Carnival 2010. The Carnival was held in Lahore on Feb 21st, in Karachi on March 7th and in Islamabad on April 18th. The Nature Carnival hosted a wide array of colourful activities at the Carnival.
WWF Pakistan’s Travelling Nature Carnival was supported by NIDO Nestle in Lahore,ICI paints in Karachi and PIA in Islamabad as main Sponsor. Sponsors also had a big multi-participatory presence with environmental Essay Arts, Quiz, and Speech competitions.

Information Pavilion:

Highlighting each event in carnivals were the Environmental information Pavilions established by the representatives of NIDO,ICI, and PIA.
The Pavilion sought to motivate a better understanding of natural resource conservation and associated biodiversity through various interactive activities and games.
They also had organised various exciting and innovative games at the stalls. The Environmental games were set up at the Carnival enabling participants to identify critical issues related to environmental conservation in a fun and educational fashion that could be utilised and understood by diverse age groups.
Provided free to the public were posters, gift hampers, essay competition booklets, informative brochures, illustrative and colourful booklet using drawings and photographs showing beautiful pictures of birds and landscapes.

3-D Environment Model Display Competition:


Stimulating participation from maximum schools in environmental conservation, public and private school students from Level One to high school were sent open invitations three months prior to the Carnival to contribute art works and three-dimensional interactive displays at the carnival.
Almost 350 prominent public and private schools and thousands of students from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad participated in WWF Pakistan’s Travelling Nature Carnival by putting up interactive and informative 3-D Models Display Stalls in respective cities.
The thematic 3-D Model Exhibition displayed hard work and knowledge of our youth about the environmental challenges of Pakistan.Live presentations by the schools, species and habitat recognition, issue explanation related to key environmental challenges in Pakistan and overall encouragement to appreciate Pakistan’s natural assets diversity took place.
This innovative approach to create awareness is part of WWF Pakistan’s awareness raising Campaigns and school outreach initiative.

Environment Arts Competition:

Over 300 of students immersed themselves in putting their imagination on paper through various creative mediums. This hand on fun activity helped children learn about, and become aware of, the key environmental challenges in Pakistan and also about their individual responsibility towards conservation of natural assets across the country.


Environmental Quiz competition, Singing Performances:


WWF Pakistan held an informative environmental quiz competition before the closing ceremony at the Carnival. Hundreds of students participated in the quiz competition. The students had prepared the questions from the website of WWF Pakistan. Singing competition was also conducted among students.The winning students were given gift hampers of Panda Products.
Live Musical Performance: WWF Pakistan also arranged for a live concert to add life and energy to the Travelling Nature Carnival. Live musical performances continued with intervals throughout the day.


Environmental Puppet Show:


The Puppet Show performance highlighted the role each one of has towards environmental conservation and also fostered sense of individual accountability towards nature conservation.


Media Coverage:

To increase the Travelling Nature Carnivals’ immediate public outreach and to convey the message of environmental conservation across via most direct launching platform, WWF Pakistan took out a one page pre and post event press release in almost every prominent News Papers.

Chief Guest and Special Guests:

Mr Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, the Provincial Minister for the Education, Literacy, Excise , Taxation and Transport, Punjab, was the chief Guest at the Lahore event. Mr. Mustafa Kamal, the former Administrator of Karachi Metropolis, who participated at the Karachi carnival as a chief guest, applauded schoolchildren for their state of the art model display of environmental concerns of the country in the various exhibits.
Mr. Imtiyaz Inyayat Elahi, Chairman, CDA was the chief guest for WWF – Pakistan’s Wetlands Travelling Nature Carnival Islamabad.
Speaking at the closing ceremonies the chief guests congratulated WWF Pakistan on the success of the Annual Nature Carnivals in the three cities and were delighted to see the enthusiastic participation of the School children, teachers Parents, Media, Corporate Sector and general public.

Way Forward:

The team of Corporate Relations’ department of WWF – Pakistan is determined to organise such events to raise the awareness among the masses and to sensitise them towards the pressing environmental issues. To make the young minds of our nation the vigilant custodian of our natural resources and inculcate the civic responsibility in them for the larger interest Pakistan
